Directions

Prep (10 minutes):

  1. Preheat the broiler: Turn on your broiler setting and allow it to preheat for at least 5 minutes. This ensures the broiler is hot enough to sear the salmon quickly.

  2. Prepare the herb crust: In a small bowl, combine the black pepper, dried chives, ground coriander, crushed red pepper flakes, onion powder, and dried parsley flakes.

  3. Prep the salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. This helps achieve a crispier sear during broiling.

Cooking (10 minutes):

  1. Season the salmon: Rub the herb crust mixture evenly over both sides of each salmon fillet.

  2. Prepare the pan (optional): Lightly grease a baking sheet or broiler pan with a thin layer of olive oil to prevent sticking. Alternatively, you can use a non-stick baking sheet.

  3. Place the salmon: Arrange the seasoned salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet or broiler pan, leaving some space between each piece for even cooking.

  4. Broil the salmon: Place the baking sheet with the salmon fillets on the top rack of your preheated broiler. Broil the salmon for 7-10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown, the crust is crispy, and the fish flakes easily with a fork.
Tip 1: The broiling time can vary depending on the thickness of your salmon fillets. Start checking for doneness after 7 minutes and continue broiling for an additional minute or two at a time until cooked through.
Tip 2: Broiling is a quick cooking method, so keep an eye on the salmon to avoid overcooking. Overcooked salmon will become dry and tough.

  5. Fresh herbs: While the salmon broils, finely chop the fresh coriander. You can also chop some dill weed if using.

  6. Garnish (optional): Once the salmon is cooked through, remove the pan from the broiler. Sprinkle the cooked salmon fillets with the freshly chopped coriander and dill weed (if using) for an extra pop of flavor and color.

Serving (5 minutes):

  1. Serve immediately: Transfer the broiled salmon fillets to serving plates and serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, rice, or quinoa.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality, fresh salmon for the best flavor.

  • To add a touch of moisture to the salmon, you can drizzle it with a tablespoon of lemon juice or melted butter before broiling.

  • If you don't have fresh herbs, you can substitute 1 teaspoon of dried dill weed for the fresh dill weed.

  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave.
